Important Announcements for Division 3

*The class will have a classroom party this Friday at 2pm. This party will act as our postponed Halloween party.  Students may bring a snack to share. No drinks except for water.  NO TREATS OR SNACKS THAT CONTAINS NUTS PLEASE.



I would like to introduce our new classroom Prime Minister Cathy Nguyen!  She represents the music party and as a result, the class will be listening to music on their devices for one block per week!  Please contact me at school if you have any questions about this new extra piece in our school day.

Dear Parents of Div.3

Social Studies Project on WW2, Germany or Elephants

Today, our class had a good discussion about our projects that we are working on. Here are the details of that discussion.

-The researched topics must be written in their own words. (No cut and paste). Students are to see Mr.S if they are not sure about this rule.

-Some students are still searching for a Board/poster to buy. Students suggested that Walmart, Michaels, Staples and Monk Office Supply are all good places to find one. Some larger Dollar Stores might also be an option. Plain poster paper is available at the school as well.  

-Some students are doing their project on Powerpoint so they don't need to find a board.

-Please check with your child that they are well on their way with the project.

-The Due Date is quickly approaching-Wednesday October 26th!


Families, if you haven't already done so, please ensure that your child has some kind of planner to record what there is for homework and other important information. Some planners will be available through Mr. S. 

-I will be handing out Student ID cards today. Check with your child that they received one.

Unfortunately, The school will not be providing school agendas this year. It will be up to each family to supply their own agenda book.  Please contact me at the school (250 477 1878) if you have any questions or concerns. I am hoping to start using some kind of agenda system tomorrow. Please check this blog daily, as I will posting items daily for the next few days.

Please bring back the swimming forms and money. Our first swimming date is this Friday.

Important Information for Division 3

-Our Terry Fox Run is postponed until Thursday, September 29th in the afternoon.

-Students will have their first quiz of the year on their timetable schedule.  Students are to study their notes Thursday night in preparation for the quiz on Friday, September 26th.  

-Criteria for our Social Studies project on WWII, Germany or Elephants will be ready next week.

Last Post of the Year!

A BIG THANK YOU TO FAMILIES FOR MAKING THIS YEAR A SUCCESSFUL ONE!

Our mini-talent show was very successful Tuesday morning. Thank you participants for your fine piano performances.

Our movie and party will take place this afternoon.

Wednesday
We will be cleaning out our lockers Wednesday morning so please remember to bring a bag or two from home to put your belongings in.

WE STILL HAVE SOME OVERDUE BOOKS SO PLEASE KEEP LOOKING IF YOU HAVEN'T BROUGHT THEM ALL BACK.

Air band assembly after recess on Wednesday.


Thursday
This day will be spent at Gyro Park. The entire school will walk down at 9am and return about 2:30pm.  Report cards will be issued after this field trip.

Friday June 17- All grade six classes go to Uvic Cinecenta for a movie in the morning.

Happenings for the week of May9-13

Math
-Math quiz this Tuesday on percent, ratios and rates

Social Studies
-Japan project is well under way. Students should be getting close to completing. Students have only 10 more school days before our presentations for the project start.

Science
-Extreme Environment project is now assigned. This project is due Wednesday, June 1st.  Presentations may start before this date for early finishers.

Peer teaching will start this week. Ask your son or daughter about this and what they plan to teach the class. We will have one group of kids go per week until the end of the year. This activity is not a requirement, but it is encouraged.

Happenings for the week of Monday April 25-29th for Division 3

Math
-The class is currently working on percent and last week's Fractions quiz should have made it home by now. Students scored well on this quiz.

Language Arts
-Students have been working on Story Stories lately. Topics have ranged from famous people to sea life. We will be looking at more persuasive writing this week for our Language Arts.

Social Studies
-Students are working through a booklet on Japan and have done some marvelous group work that looked at analyzing Daily Life and Foods.
-Our long term project on Japan has begun. Please check in with your son or daughter that they have started on this project. The project is due, Wednesday, May 25th

Physical Education
-Students are making a better effort by coming prepared to gym class lately and I am proud of them for that.  Badminton skills continue this week.
 
French
-Students received a French booklet that is to be complete by the end of term (June 3)
French works continues on Friday only.

I need your help. The class is responsible for collecting items for an upcoming raffle. The theme is basically art supplies. Paints, special markers, drawing paper, etc.  The deadline is this Friday to bring items in but I am sure that we can extend it to another day or two. Thank you so much for continued support.

Happenings for the week of April 18-23

Language Arts
-Students are doing a wonderful job of presenting their diorama projects to the class. Students have worked very hard assembling these diorama and their hard work is paying off!
A reminder that all Breadwinner and Legend Pursuit Novels are now due and need to be handed in to Mr. S.

Textbooks
-Lately, there are been some issues around missing textbooks. Please if possible, check in with your child to see that they have their Math textbook.  Most of them should have a Social Studies textbook and a Science textbook.  WE WILL BE  TAKING INVENTORY VERY SOON SO WE DON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES COME THE END OF YEAR.

Math
-Students are almost finished with Fractions so there will be a quiz on Fractions this Wednesday, April 20, 2016.

Social Studies
-Students are hard at work with their Japan studies and a major project will be assigned  this Wednesday, Apr 20, 2016. A criteria sheet will be posted on the blog for next week.

Science
-A project on Extreme Environments will be assigned next week. Details to follow on next week's blog.

-Just a friendly reminder that next Monday, April 25th is the Pro-d day here at Arbutus.

-Students are also reminded to bring back their report card folder if they are still at home.

Welcome to our new address.  The blog however is virtually the same!

Important information to share with you this week (April 11-15) include:

Math
-Students are working well with their fractions work and I am proud of them for that!  Our first little quiz on fractions will take place next week. Details to follow.

Language Arts
-Students have been working on smaller writing assignments lately. Our three latest one include, "Revealing a Theme", "A Recipe for Success" and making their own rubric. 

Social Studies
-Students are working well with their Japan group work. Topics covered so far include Money, Clothing, Chores, Housing and School life.

Science
-Our work with Extreme Environments continue with our textbook, Science Probe 6. We will be looking at protection from Extreme Environments and Exploring beneath the Ocean next.

Physical Education
-Students are practicing their badminton skills, taking a fitness run on Wednesday and playing cooperative games when our gym times are outside.
