OUR MATH QUIZ (PERIMETER) PLANNED FOR THIS WEDNESDAY HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO A VERY BUSY SCHEDULE. WE WILL RESUME OUR WORK ON PERIMETER AFTER THE BREAK.

Math
We are starting on Data Analysis in Math which includes reading and drawing of graphs.

Language Arts
The Elephant in the Garden booklet will be due Next Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Healthy Choices
The deadline for these projects is fast approaching. They are due by Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Important Dates

Remembrance Day assembly Thursday, Nov. 9.

Swimming this Friday, Nov. 10.

No school on Monday, Nov. 13.

Many students are starting to fill out there agendas on their own as often as they can and I am proud of them for that!

Students are busy presenting their projects on Elephants, W.W.2 or Germany. Their scores/feedback sheets are available to go home otherwise they will be filed in the file folder.

We are close to finishing the book so check with your son or daughter that they are close to finishing the booklet.

Math
There will be a quiz on Multiplication and Division this Friday, Nov.3.

Important Announcements for Division 3  Week of Oct. 2-6

Math
The class continues to work on Whole Numbers and our second quiz of the year will happen this Wednesday, Oct. 4th.  Students are encouraged to review their work the night before. 

Language Arts
Students will be responsible for a drama skit that connects to the novel, "An Elephant in the Garden".  Students are working together in a group for this assignment. They will practice their skits later this week and present sometime next week.

Physical Education
Students continue with Soccer skills and fitness runs/walks on Wednesdays.  Their Soccer skill work test will take place in two weeks time as we are finishing Soccer and then starting Basketball in the gym.

Advisory
Timetable quiz this Friday. 

Agendas
I am pleased to see that all the kids have agendas now and we can start to use them as often as we can.  My goal is to have students complete their agendas three times per week, but the days which they are done may vary.  Please refer to this blog if you are unsure about assignments or notices in regards to your child.

Math
-A short quiz on Place Value tomorrow. The class has reviewed the kind of questions that will be asked.

Language Arts
-Students should be well on their way with their project ( Elephants or WW2 or Germany). Please check in with your child to see how they are progressing.  This project is due at the end of October.

-Please check in with your child that they are also completing their booklet for this novel. I have handed out a checklist so students can see what their booklet should include.  

Healthy Choices
-Students have started on a Healthy Choices project that connects to big ideas with our P.E.and Science cirriculum.  
I have provided students with a criteria sheet for this project and it will be due later in November.

Important Dates and Notices for Division 3 for the week of  September 18th

Math
-We are currently working on Whole Numbers.  You could check in with your child to see that have completed their work on Understanding Large Numbers now due. Our next assignment is on Comparing Numbers.  A quiz on Math will take place in about a weeks time.

Language Arts
-We are starting on a project for An Elephant in the Garden. Students are to choose one of three topics; Elephants,  World War 2 or Germany. I have provided a criteria sheet for every student. Please check in with your child that they understand the expectations set out.  Due date for this project will be Monday, October 30th. 

Physical Education
-Our first swimming time is quickly approaching (Oct.6). Please return the blue swimming forms as soon as possible.

Important Dates and Messages for Division 3

Upper Grade Sponge activity due today Wednesday, June 21st. Students are welcome to ask for an extension if they need more time.

Movie at Cinecenta this Friday, June 23rd in the morning. Students may buy items from the concession on this day.

Avalanche Games at the school next Tuesday, June 27th at the school in the afternoon.

Arbutus Fun Day next Wednesday, June 28th in the afternoon.

STUDENTS PLEASE BRING HOME YOUR DIORAMAS. THEY TURNED OUT GREAT!

Students are asked to bring their baseball gloves from home if they have one. We are going to play some softball over the next week.

We will have our end of year classroom party next Wednesday, June 28th before lunch.

Information for the week of May 1-May 5

Novel Study
Students should be well on their way when it comes to their Individual Novel Study booklet and diorama. This assignment is due Tuesday, May 23.

Math
Students continue to work with decimals and the final decimal quiz will be at the end of next week.  I am sending home two quizzes today. One on Geometry and one on Money. Overall, students did very well on these quizzes.

Science
Students continue their studies on liquids, solids and gases. The next project for Science will be a group poster project.

Social Studies
Students are working on mapping skills.

Physical Education
Tennis lessons continue this Friday, May 5.

Tennis
-Please return the tennis lesson permission forms back to the school as soon as possible. Payments are encouraged to be made on-line.

Math
-There will be a quiz on our "Money Fun" booklet this Thursday, April 13th.  The booklet is also due that day.  We will prepare for the quiz on Wednesday and study Wednesday night at home.

Novel Study
-Students are to choose a novel of their choice and have it approved by their teacher. Novel Study activities will be assigned by the end of this week. The main activity will be to make a diorama about a major event from their novels. Students could possibly start this project over the Easter break.

Science
-A new unit on Matter will start after Easter Break. Students will finish their Healthy Choices presentations this week.

A Reminder that there is no school on Tuesday, April 18th.

Math
Students did a super job on their Geometry quiz before Spring Break-complete
Students are now working on their Money booklet for Math.

Language Arts
Students will continue to work on weekly journals for their writing- complete
Students will be responsible for an individual novel study booklet- we are starting this soon.

Social Studies
Students have completed their Japan project presentations
Students will soon need to hand in their Japan booklets by This Friday, April 7th.

Students are just about to complete their Healthy Choices Project.

Term Two Summary before Div. 3 heads off to Spring Break.

Math
Students have completed their work on Geometry and I am currently marking their final quiz. The next unit will be on Money

Language Arts
Students will be working more on persuasive writing and a little less on weekend journal after Spring Break.  Individual Novel Study project will start right after Easter Break.

Science
I HAVE EXTENDED THE HEALTHY CHOICES PROJECT TO  TUESDAY, APRIL 11. THIS IS PARTLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE BEHIND WITH OUR JAPAN PROJECTS.

Social Studies
Japan projects are almost complete!  Japan booklets will be due on TUESDAY, APRIL 18.

Physical Education
Our unit on badminton will start April 10. Fitness Runs and outside cooperative games continue until then.

French

Happening in March for Division 3

My apologies to students and families for the lack of entries lately. It has been a very busy time with Report Cards

Math
We are working on measuring and drawing angles. I strongly encourage all students have their own protractor. Some students are borrowing protractors at the present time.

THERE WILL BE QUIZ ON GEOMETRY NEXT TUESDAY, MARCH 14TH.

Language Arts
Students have finished our novel study and we will be starting Persuasive Writing.
A new novel study will start after Easter Break.

Social Studies
Students are finishing their Power Point Presentations on Japan. Students are also working on a Japan work booklet which will be due by March Break.

Science
Students are working on a Healthy Choices Project which covers aspects of our Science cirriculum and Physical Education cirriculum.

Happenings for the week of January 30-February3

Notices will be going home today in regards to our field trip to the Observatory next Monday, Feb.6.

Math
-Students are working on Perimeter and Area. The three resources that we are using for this unit is Math Makes Sense, Jump Math and Journeys in Math. A quiz on Perimeter will take place early next week.

Novel Study
-Students are working on their booklet work for the Breadwinner and Legend Pursuit. Students completed their skits last week. We are about half way through each book. We will hopefully complete all our reading and work by the end of next month. 

Science
-Our Solar System work is nearly complete. Please check with your son/daughter that their booklet is nearly complete, including a good title page. THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON THE SOLAR SYSTEM THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3.  

Marks for Canada vs. China will be going home today and tomorrow. This was a major project. Check in with your child to see how they did!

Physical Education
- Gymnastics is now complete and we are well on our way to doing some individual dance.
